SuperBru Week 14

Wow. Great start to the weekend for me; I even predicted the events as they unfolded - check it out... 11:01am I sent a GTALK message to Jonny G, and said "BrYan: No one will settle for a draw today though. 7-10 final kick at the 50m? You bet they'll run it." .. at that point it bode well for the results this weekend. I was the first in the soeper fortien pool to hit the 90's, and then baas oltman was behind me at 82.00 so the lead was growing steadily... come on LIONS I had hoped :) ...

... but then tragedy struck - a match-winning (and for me, BP earning) try was disallowed in the LIONS game, and I was out of contention for a GSP, and the SHARKS were finding it hard to make a semi. It was so painful - the LIONS deserved it, and it would have made me unstoppable in "Soeper Fortien" and close enough the same in the $ pool. As things unfolded, I ended up willing the BLUES to win, and they just missed out. The FORCE let me down by giving in a soft try that gave my challengers a MP, and denied by brother Al a BP. The STORMERS did me a favour because it broke the chances of a GSP to pretty much anyone who was close to me. The SHARKS vs BULLS game was down to the wire - and a place in the semi's for the SHARKS, and a boost of my lead in SUPERBRU. Bismarck should have been awarded a penalty on the 5m because the BULLS weren't 10m, but in the end, they got a scrum, and then a try, and then a BP, but not enough for teh w1n.

(as an aside - did anyone else notice that EVERY SINGLE game this weekend, apart from the HURRICANES / REDS, was decided by within 7 points?)

My overall haul for the weekend was abysmal, and stressful too - my points hauls were as follows:

Soeper Fortien: 5.5 (dropped my lead by 1.5)
Legends09: 6 (dropped my lead by 2.7)
Shark pool: 5.5 (dropped my lead by 2.5) - VIPER SCORED 15 points!!!!
GLOBAL: 5 (dropped out by 380 positions)

Provided I pick one of the semi's right, I can't really be beaten except in the one pool I don't care much about. The semi's count for 2WP+1BP+0.5MP each = 7 points for the weekend, and the final is 3WP+1BP+0.5MP = 4.5 points.

I have learnt that being gutsy at this stage of the competition is stupid, I should be defending my leads so I should pick the same sides my contenders are likely to be picking, and then we all lose, or we all win...

Soeper Fortien: 1st by 6.83 with lots of people breathing down my neck now. If I pick one right, then I'm theoretically 8.83 up, with one game to go (max haul of 3.5) = 5.33 which can't be reached in the final...

Legends09: 1st (by 3.6 and then 5.83). In theory I should win some $ in this pool (but only 1st spot is a sweet prize), but I need to make sure I secure a BP or at least a MP to keep ahead. Getting one wrong and the 2nd spot gets it right means we go into the final neck-and-neck. If I pick one right, then I'm theoretically 7.83 up on 3rd spot, with one game to go (max haul of 3.5) = 4.33 which can barely be reached in the final if they pick right with BP and MP and I pick wrong... The key here is to predict what they'll pick and pick the same. I suspect a BULLS win is a safe bet :)

Shark pool: 1st (by 1 point). I don't really care about this pool because I've never really been challenged and the pool is so tiny, someone can get 15 points in a weekend. I've hit 100 points, but anything can happen. Dyldo can do a lot of damage to my reputation overall in this pool - he's even overtaken me in the GLOBAL ratings!

GLOBAL: This has been a tough pill to swallow. I've dropped right out of the top 30, and even landed up on page 10 of 1000 - that's been a horrible plummet. I can't believe the top achiever this week got a haul of 12.5 global points, with a TDM of only 7!!!
